The Tax Authority has launched a new compensation program for business owners affected by extortion (racket), aimed at damages incurred between September 24 and November 23, 2026. The program, operated as a pilot, offers compensation of up to 2 million shekels for direct property damages, including buildings, inventory, and equipment, following a refusal to pay extortion fees. To be eligible for compensation, business owners must hold a valid business license, file a police report regarding the extortion, and prove that they did not receive insurance coverage for the damages. The application process includes required documents and must be submitted within seven days of the damage occurrence. It is important to note that repairs to the damage are not allowed before inspection by an appraiser from the Tax Authority. The program focuses solely on direct damages and does not include indirect damages or damages to third parties. The processing time for the claim can take up to eight months.
