The Council of Property Appraisers at the Ministry of Justice has approved Standard 9.1, aimed at uniformly defining the term "apartment area". The new standard seeks to reduce discrepancies in area measurements that have been practiced until now, and to improve transparency and certainty for apartment buyers and developers. The new standard replaces Standard 9.0, adopted in 2006, which did not manage to resolve all measurement-related issues. Among the significant changes, Standard 9.1 stipulates that the apartment area will be measured according to the outer lines of the walls, including shared walls, and regulates the inclusion of spaces such as attics and storage rooms. For example, an attic with permanent access will be included in the apartment area, while an attic without access will not be included. The new standard was created after the work of a professional committee made up of representatives from various government ministries, aimed at ensuring a uniform and clear measurement of apartment areas, and preventing misunderstandings between buyers and developers.
