The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) will start publishing a new index this week focused on the prices of second-hand apartments, as part of the monthly indices to be published on Tuesday. The index, which will be quarterly, will also include a breakdown by districts and will be presented for the first time after criticism of previous indices that did not reflect the reality of the housing market. Dr. Doron Saig, head of housing at CBS, explains that the new index will provide a more accurate picture of apartment prices, as it will not be affected by financial incentives offered by developers for new apartments. He emphasizes that second-hand apartments do not include additional incentives, and therefore the index will provide more reliable data on market trends. The index will be published with a one-month delay to include all transaction data, thus joining CBS's efforts to improve housing data in Israel, including additional indices such as land prices and new apartments.
