A government team led by the director general of the Ministry of Construction and Housing recommends establishing the ultra-Orthodox city of Plougoth, to be located near Kiryat Gat, in order to address the housing crisis in the ultra-Orthodox sector. The recommendation, which follows a government decision, proposes to create a city that will include approximately 45,000 housing units and house about 225,000 residents. To prevent a change in the character of Kiryat Gat, it was decided to define Highway 40 as the boundary between the ultra-Orthodox city and general urban development.
The team includes representatives from several government ministries and intends to promote the establishment of the new city as soon as possible. It should be noted that the establishment of Plougoth adds to existing plans for the establishment of other ultra-Orthodox cities, Kseif and Tila, but the Ministry of Finance expresses concerns about the high costs of infrastructure for the new city. However, the recommendation for Plougoth receives support from the Ministry of Finance due to its planning and economic advantages, including accessible location and designated commercial areas. The establishment of the city aims to meet the growing housing needs of the ultra-Orthodox population.
